Arizona Desert 50 The apache Trail, or AZ88 ( officially), links Apache Juncion with Globe. It runs thru Theodore Roosevelt Lake, thru the Superstition Mountains and the Tonto National Forest. It is 40 miles of steep, winding and mostly unpaved road past magnificent scenery of twisted igneous mountains with dense forests of saguaro and ferocactus. This drive will take you most of a day as the road is 5mph at times and you will stop for photos many times.. An Auto with high clearance and all wheel drive will feel very comfortable.

Sian-Kaan-Entrance The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve was established on the 20th of January 1986 by presidential decree (under President Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado) and became part of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) program that same year. In 1987 the reserve was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As part of the MAB program, Sian Ka’an faces the greatest challenge of conservation: to find a way to integrate human activities without compromising other forms of life contained within its boundaries. Sian Ka’an is approximately 1.3 million acres in size and spans 120 kilometers from north to south (comprising almost one third of the Caribbean coast of Mexico). In 1994 an area of over 200,000 acres to the south of the Reserve was named a Protected area of Flora and Fauna of Uaymil, increasing the continuous area of protected land.

Mayan_Home Mayan Home About 45 minutes along the Tulum-Coba Road stands a cluster of stick and concrete buildings. Among this cluster are several families. These photos are of the living area of one of those photos. The homes consist of usually two buildings, one a concrete structure which is their hurricane building. The other structure is a family area for cooking and eating and it’s made of loosely bound sticks. The fruit is a local fruit called Dragon’s Fruit also called Pitaya. The pigeons you see are raised by the family for food. The father works up in the hotel zone in Cancun, some two-three hours away. He only comes home on weekends.
